Cet idéal, la feuille blanche
« Je dois être tout à la fois noir et blanc, avoir une envie énorme de trouver l’expression de la pureté, le désir du rien, de l’immatériel, de la beauté et de l’harmonie absolue, mais aussi le
doute constant, nécessaire, utile, celui de l’homme, qui n’est qu’un homme en même temps constructeur et destructeur.
Chercher, espérer, explorer, croire que derrière la feuille blanche se trouve l’idéal ! Mais tout d’un coup le trait salit la feuille, fixe l’imagination dans cette réalité physique nécessaire.
L’esquisse a pris forme. Et je regrette la feuille blanche. Alors je me dépêche…
La réalité se construit dans le secret espoir de pouvoir à nouveau reprendre la feuille blanche. »

This ideal, the white sheet of paper.
« I need to be both black and white, to harbour this constant will to seek the expression of purity, the desire for nothing, the immaterial, beauty and absolute harmony, but also I must maintain this constant doubt, so necessary and vital, that of a man who after all is only a man, both builder and destroyer all in one, all at the same time.
Seek, hope, explore, and still believe that behind the white sheet of paper lies the ideal. All of a sudden a line troubles the white perfection, fixing my imagination on the urgency of physical reality. The sketch has taken shape. And already I regret the loss of the immaculate beginning.
So I hurry. I construct my new reality secretly hoping that once again I’ll be able to take up a new white sheet and start again. »
